High Bulk FBB

  • 2026-07-25 20:10:46

High Bulk FBB is a folding box board (FBB) that achieves higher thickness and stiffness under the same weight by optimizing fiber ratio and production process. It belongs to the high-end category of white cardboard and is widely used in the high-end packaging field due to its performance advantages. Conventional weights include 205, 215, 225, 255,305gsm, etc. Common sizes include 700 * 1000, 787 * 1092, 889 * 1194mm, etc. The roll width is usually greater than 600mm.

Core Features

Compared with ordinary white cardboard, the core advantage of High Bulk FBB lies in its "high bulk thickness". The loose thickness refers to the volume per unit weight of paper, and the higher the value, the thicker the paper. This means:

Lightweight and cost optimization: High Bulk FBB with lower weight can be used to achieve the same thickness and stiffness requirements, thereby saving fiber raw materials and reducing transportation costs. According to data, at the same thickness, its weight can be reduced by about 30 grams.

Excellent stiffness and protection: The high bulk thickness endows the paper with excellent stiffness and rigidity, providing better compression and cushioning protection for packaging contents.

Excellent processing adaptability: The paper surface is smooth and delicate, with excellent printing effect and high color reproduction. At the same time, good stiffness also ensures excellent die-cutting and crease forming effects on high-speed automatic packaging lines.

Safety and Environmental Protection: The product is usually made of 100% virgin wood pulp, free of fluorescent whitening agents, meets food grade safety standards, and can directly come into contact with food. Meanwhile, paper can be highly recycled.

Production Process

High Bulk FBB is typically composed of a three-layer composite structure:

Surface and bottom layers: Bleached chemical wood pulp (such as coniferous wood sulfate pulp) is usually used to ensure high whiteness, smoothness, and printing adaptability of the paper.

Core layer: It is the key to increasing the thickness of pine, usually using chemical mechanical pulp (such as eucalyptus, maple, etc.). This pulp retains some lignin, and the fibers are stiff, which can effectively increase the thickness and stiffness of the cardboard.

During production, the three layers of slurry are separately formed on the grid, then compounded together, and finally processed into finished products through processes such as pressing, drying, and surface coating.

Main Purpose

Due to its excellent physical properties and printing effects, High Bulk FBB is widely used in the mid to high end packaging field, commonly used in:

Premium packaging: cosmetics, gifts, digital products, toys, clothing, etc.

Food packaging: chocolate, tea, coffee, cookies, frozen/refrigerated foods, dried fruits, etc.

Medical and healthcare: packaging boxes for drugs, health products, medical products, etc.

Others: cigarette packs, book covers, magazine covers, hang tags, business cards, etc.
