Cup stock paper is a specialized paper used to make disposable paper cups and is a food grade composite packaging material. Its core is to use a specific process to give non waterproof paper the ability to block liquids and form heat seals. The weight ranges from 150-350gsm, with regular sizes including 787 * 1092mm, 889 * 1194mm, etc.
Meaning and Composition
Cup stock paper is a composite material, which consists of "base paper+plastic coating layer".
Base Paper: As a substrate, it provides basic shape and stiffness.
Coating layer: mostly made of polyethylene (PE) resin. By using extrusion composite technology, melted PE plastic is uniformly coated on one or both sides of the base paper to form single PE Cup stock paper or double PE Cup stock paper
Emerging trend: In response to environmental protection, "plastic free Cup stock paper" using water-based coatings instead of PE coating has also emerged in the market.
Raw Materials and Processes
Main raw materials: Cup stock paper is usually made from plant fibers such as coniferous wood and broad-leaved wood (chemical wood pulp). Some products also use sugarcane pulp or bamboo pulp as a fiber source.
Production process: generally includes three major steps: pulp making, papermaking, and film coating. After the raw paper is copied, the PE plastic particles are heated and melted by a laminating machine, extruded and compounded on the paper surface, and finally rolled into Cup stock paper.
Core Features
The characteristics of Cup stock paper are mainly determined by the combination of the base paper and the PE coating layer:
Waterproof and moisture-proof: The PE coating layer enables the Cup stock paper to effectively contain liquids, which is its core function.
Safety and hygiene: PE material itself is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless, meeting the safety standards for food contact materials.
Good processability: The PE layer has excellent heat sealing performance, making it easy to seal when forming paper cups; At the same time, paper itself also has good printing adaptability and can present exquisite patterns.
Lightweight and durable: The finished Cup stock paper is lightweight and has a certain degree of stiffness and strength, making it easy to use.
Main Purpose
Beverage container: Used to make disposable paper cups for holding hot drinks (such as coffee and tea) and cold drinks (such as juice and carbonated drinks).
Food packaging: also used to make ice cream cups, paper bowls, as well as various types of food packaging such as meal boxes and mooncake boxes.
