Food Grade Kraft Paper

  • 2026-03-12 22:00:38

Food-grade kraft paper refers to kraft paper that is safe for contact with food. It first belongs to the "kraft paper" family and possesses the characteristics of toughness and durability. However, the core difference between it and ordinary kraft paper lies in that its production process, raw material selection, and hygiene standards must comply with national or international food safety regulations, ensuring that it will not migrate harmful substances into food when in contact with it, thereby safeguarding consumers' health. Its conventional grammage ranges from 22 to 110g/㎡, and it comes in white and brown colors.

Raw materials and process

Core raw material: 100% virgin softwood pulp is primarily used. This is because softwood fibers are long and can impart excellent strength and toughness to paper. Depending on product requirements, sustainable raw materials such as bamboo pulp may also be used. For food-grade products, the use of recycled pulp is strictly prohibited to avoid the potential pollution risks posed by recycled fibers.

Safety standards: The production process must undergo strict food safety certifications, such as domestic QS certification and international FDA certification. This means that both raw materials and the entire production process must be tested to ensure that the finished product does not contain fluorescent agents, brighteners, heavy metals, or other harmful chemicals.

Production process: The product is manufactured through processes such as pulping, beating, conditioning, papermaking, calendering, and rewinding using equipment like Fourdrinier machines. To achieve high whiteness, an environmentally friendly bleaching process is employed. To meet varying barrier requirements, subsequent processes like lamination (PE/PLA), wax coating, or coating can be applied.

Feature

Food-grade kraft paper combines multiple advantages, representing a balance between performance and environmental friendliness.

Excellent physical strength: Inheriting the natural advantages of kraft paper, it features high bursting strength, strong tensile strength, and resistance to folding and abrasion, ensuring that the packaging is less prone to damage during transportation and use.

Absolute food safety: no fluorescent agents, no chemical additives, complies with FDA, QS and other standards, making it a safe choice for direct contact with food.

Excellent environmental properties: The raw materials are sourced from sustainably managed forests, and the product itself is biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable, making it an ideal alternative to plastic packaging.

Excellent printability and processability: The surface has been treated to achieve a smooth and delicate texture, ensuring excellent printing results. Additionally, it possesses good stiffness, making it suitable for high-speed automated bag making, lamination, and other processing procedures.

Functional customization: Through special processes, specific functions such as moisture resistance, waterproofing, oil resistance, high temperature resistance, or low temperature resistance can be achieved, meeting the packaging needs of different foods.

Purpose

The main use of food-grade kraft paper is to make various packaging bags. In the catering industry, it is mainly used as takeout paper bags, hamburger wrapping paper, French fries boxes, and grease-proof paper; in baking, it can be used as baking mat paper, cake boxes, bread bags, pastry trays, especially the varieties treated with sheepskin for grease resistance and high temperature resistance; it can also be used as dry goods packaging bags for rice, flour, sugar, beans, etc., as well as environmentally friendly paper bags for fruits and vegetables; it can also be used as handbags and shopping bags provided by major brands and shopping malls.
